Brad Pitt takes on poverty and the tabloids

File Under:
Brad Pitt

I'm the first to admit, I'm not a huge Brad Pitt fan. But the guy means well and that still counts for something.

Brad Pitt is taking on poverty and AIDS in Africa — and the tabloids. In an hour-long ABC "Primetime Live" special set to air Tuesday night (10 p.m. ET), Pitt talks to Diane Sawyer about the humanitarian crisis in Africa.

"I can't get out of the press. These people can't get in the press. So let's redirect the attention a little bit," he tells Sawyer.

"We have the potential to end poverty (in Africa) in our time. ... Man — I mean, what is more exciting than that? The potential's there. We gotta go for it."

Pitt says he dreams of having a family someday. "Just feels like a natural progression," he tells Sawyer. "And, you know, anything to get the focus off myself. It's gotta be a healthy thing.

I know what you're thinking, it's all just PR to get Brad in the spotlight before his big movie. You're right, but, hey, at least this is a worthwhile cause as opposed to Kooky Cruise's all-psychiatrists-are-evil movement.

Has Tom Cruise gone crazy. I realize that is the question on every star watchers minds. It appears to be a valid question. Scientology Crack, a new vitamin??

Your right at least Brad Pitt is trying to do something.

Well, Tom's been crazy for a long time. What we're seeing right now is not a new Tom, it's the real Tom - the "uncensored" version. It's Tom doing what he wants to do without anybody there to protect him.

I guess that's what happens when you fire your PR rep so your sister can take over...

Having said that, I love Tom 2.0. He's a lot more fun being a real joke and all.

Trash it like you own it!
